We always talk about the Holy Ghost as being the comforter, and it is true that the Holy Ghost is the comforter. It is stated in scripture that he is indeed the comforter: John 14:17, Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. The thing that is not talked about enough, and is not taught about enough is that verse 17 is only inclusive in the fact that there is only a small number of comforters to which Jesus can be speaking of as the answer to his statement in verse 16. Let’s read verse 16, and we will see that verse 17 is the answer to verse 16, and not an identification of a one and only comforter. John 14:16, And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;……Jesus did not say that he will pray to the Father, and he shall give you the Comforter; No, Jesus said that he will pray to the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter. I studied and studied so many of the explanations of the many that really know this stuff, too many to name; however, it came down to one common agreement: Jesus is talking of another comforter of the same kind.
if we look at the many areas in scripture that talk about the different aspects of the one, unified God; we can see how the one, unified God, usually operates in his plurality form. Why? Here are a few examples: one example is John 1:1-3, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2) The same was in the beginning with God. 3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Although the Word is with God, it is the Word by which all things were made; and without the Word was not any thing made that was made. So God the Father can have his Will, but it is the Word by which the Will is carried out. Another example is Genesis 1:1-3, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Here we can read in verse one that in the beginning that the one unified God created the heaven and the earth. It also tells us in verse two that the earth is in bad shape, and will need a bulldozer to move some things around; therefore, the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters to get things in order. Then in verse three, God said let there be light, and there was light. What really happened is that the Will of God to let there be light, was executed by the Word of God making the Will happen with a little help from the bulldozer, the Spirit of God. Remember this, the Word of God was not just to make an announcement of things to come. There was no one there to hear, “let there be light;” however, the Word of God job was to make the Will of the Father come to pass when the time came. Jesus is still the same today, as he was yesterday, as he will be tomorrow: he is not here to make the Will of the Father known only, but he is here to make the Will of the Father a reality. John 1:14, And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. So in summary, the Word was made flesh in the beginning in Genesis 1:3, “to be light;” also the Word was made flesh in John 1:14, “to dwelt among us;” now ongoing, the Word was made flesh by the Will of God, “to have that job we hoped for as the bulldozer moved some of those other applications out of the way for you to have it.” There is one other scripture in which I will just mention in which the one, unified God operates in its plurality: Genesis 1:26, And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:…There goes the one, unified God operating in its plurality form again.
The scripture tells us of how God has given each member of the Godhead a life of it’s own to carry out the one unified will of the Father. It would be like you becoming hungry, and now having it be your Will to eat now. Then your Word to eat will now go make it happen for you to eat without your Will making any announcement to your Word that it is your Will to eat because your word already knows it since it is already with you. If the food desired is in the Kitchen, the Word is not going to just make an announcement that you are hungry, but it will move your body to go get it. If there are problems getting to the food, the power that you have will be used to make sure the food desired can be gotten. This is one unified hungry person with different aspects of its make up bringing to pass the unified will to eat now. The Word, not verbiage, announces your will to eat by moving to bring it to pass. When I am hungry, I don’t say out loud that I am hungry, unless someone else is in the room; and I was letting them know just in case they might be hungry too. If I am alone, I will just get up and go get my food. That is the job of the Word, to bring to pass the will of God. We all have our Word from God, but we don’t allow it to do it’s job. We announce the Word many times, but we hardly work the word out until we exhaust it. Jesus let’s us know when he was out doing the work of God, that all of the God head was out working on the one will of the Father to heal the man. I like how Jesus says it in scripture: John 5:17, But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. We need to learn how to work with the Godhead as the Godhead works hitherto along with us.
Now let’s get back to why Jesus talked about sending another comforter to the Apostles after he leaves earth to go to heaven to be at the right hand of the Father. You can imagine them not wanting to see Jesus leave them. I am sure that all of us would have been saying the same things in which they said after seeing and knowing all the things that this once in an eternal son of God can do. Jesus said himself that there was only one that is greater than he was: John 14:28, Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. Jesus wanted the Apostles to know that he would never leave them, but he needed to leave them now for the another comforter to come with the power from on high that they would need to fulfill their commission. Jesus was the first comforter, the Word, that will come to get the Will of God off and running. Now that Jesus has completed his work in the Word, he now needs the power of God to come to them from on high. Jesus tries to tell them that the next comforter will not come to them as long as he remains present: John 16:7, Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. The reason that the Holy Ghost needed Jesus to leave before he could come is that two God Heads can not be in one places at one time when working with one person: we must move in and out of each Godhead to keep the unified God. Jesus was trying to prepare the Church to be able to move in and out of the Godheads later on in the development of the body of Christ. Jesus is the Word of God in the God head make up; therefore, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, or the Father can not be standing together at the same time if there is only one God. We need to know how to move in and out of the Godheads in order to have access to the fulness of God. This has been the plan of Jesus even before he was the word made flesh: John 10:9, I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. We must be able to go in and out of the Godheads in order to have access to the fullness of God in order to find what we need.
